The official number assigned to documented vessels, preceded of the abbreviation "NO." must be marked in block-type Arabic numerals at least three inches high on some clearly visible interior structural part of the hull. The number must be permanently affixed so that alteration, removal, or replacement would be obvious and cause some scarring or damage to the surrounding hull area."

In addition to the pictured plaques, we can offer custom sizes and shapes to fit your particular needs. Please contact us for price and availability quotation for specialized custom lettering, rare wood species, special graphics or logos or individual fabrication.

All numbers and letters are deeply engraved into the wood of your choice and finished in your choice of stain and gloss, from flat to high gloss with three coats of marine spar varnish to resist the harshest environment. All plaques are left unfinished on the reverse side to allow for maximum adhesion of epoxy (not included) used to affix plaque to the interior surface of your boat.

Although custom products, including Documentation Plaques are not returnable except for error or shipping damage, in the case of Documentation Plaques only, return for refund will be authorized if the inspecting officer of the U. S. Coast Guard refuses, in writing, to approve the design and /or construction of the plaque. A copy of the written refusal must accompany the returned plaque and prior authorization must be obtained from The American Wood Sign Company by contacting us via e-mail at signshop@americanwoodsign.com or by written request sent to the address at the top of this page.
